The Gunners now have a top four finish in their sight.
Alexis Sanchez scored his 20th for Arsenal
Arsenal came away from St. Mary’s Stadium with a 2-0 win over Southampton in a rescheduled Premier League match on Wednesday night.
Petr Cech made two crucial saves to ensure Arsenal went into the first half break on level terms with the Saints.
Alexis Sanchez went on to give Arsenal the lead on the hour mark, losing two defenders before finding the net.
The goal was his 20th in the league and makes him the first Arsenal player to reach the figure since Robin van Persie scored 30 five years ago.
Giroud celebrates his goal
Substitute Olivier Giroud wrapped up the result with a late header for his 10th of the season; the fifth successive season he’s scored double figures in the league for Arsenal.
It’s Arsenal’s second win in three days, having beat Manchester United by the same scoreline on Sunday.
Wednesday’s result got Arsenal up to fifth with 66 points from 35 games while Man. United fell to sixth, a point behind the Gunners.
